Overview On Acne Cosmetica

We all know how important is to remove makeup at the end of the day, to let our skin breathe every now and then, without smothering it with tons of skin products and there are even people who claim that we should all stay as natural as possible and keep chemicals away from our bodies.

How dangerous are all these to our skin is hard to tell, especially because some of us have no problems at all while using them and others get to suffer from the so – called acne cosmetica, a skin condition triggered by makeup usage.

Have you noticed that even though you carefully clean your face before getting into bed and you even use common home remedies to prevent acne from spreading, you do not succeed? The problem might be related with the fact that a certain ingredient you are using on a regular base irritates your skin or tends to clog pores. Allowing it to get to your skin for long hours makes more damage than you can fix with a few slices of lemon, cucumber or apples when trying to tone your face.

And the problem with acne cosmetica is a little bit more difficult because while it is caused by some makeup products you have been using, you can also be tempted to use makeup just to cover pimples that were already on your face. Therefore, the two of them are causing each other, which is not so easy to fix.

Nevertheless, there is a certain difference between the so popular acne vulgaris and this particular skin affection, because acne cosmetica usually manifests just with little bumps instead of inflamed and red papules or pustules. You might just try giving up on makeup for some time just to see if the little bumps start disappearing, and yet you should not be wasting too much time before consulting a doctor.

Generally speaking, eye creams together with heavy moisturizers, pomades and makeup are the most common things that cause acne cosmetica. Nevertheless, the term refers to any cosmetic products that you use and that makes your skin react in this way. So remember that hair oils, shampoos, hair dyes, shower gels or body lotions can trigger acne cosmetica on you as well.

If the bad news is that this type of acne is commonly mistaken with others, the good news is that once it is diagnosed, it can be easily treated, without you having to give up on cosmetics. You might, however, need to choose some noncomedogenic products, or water based makeup, to take better care of your skin and, why not, to hurry up the healing with a simple treatment of exfoliation, based either on benzoyl peroxide or on salicylic acid.

As usually, do not give up on medical support once you start seeing some good signs, because it never hurts to be checked by a professional when dealing with acne.
