Is your lifestyle causing your acne?

Acne, the skin disorder that affects almost 100% of the population has different sorts of causes. Among hormonal changes, foods, cosmetics, environmental risks, as surprisingly it might sound, there is also your lifestyle, or, in other words, the places you go and the things you do.

First of all, if you work in a place where the air if filled with pore cloggers and your skin is exposed to them, you will most likely experience breakouts or you might worsen your already existing acne. For instance, clogged pores from airborne grease may aggravate your condition, so you should always be aware of and prepared for the skin challenges the surroundings you work in. Secondly, if you work in a place where you are exposed to the sun on a daily basis you should consider the dangers.

Although for short periods of time you could find that tanning your skin actually helps you get rid of some or all zits, if you exaggerate you only trigger your sebaceous glands to produce more oil in order to re-hydrate your skin, causing you breakouts. The solution could be the use of oil-free sunscreens.

Strictly referring to a mental cause of acne you might have to fight against, we have to take stress into consideration. Who hasn't felt stressed out because of an office deadline? The next days you most likely ended up with another breakout. The explanation comes easy: when you are stressed there are a lot of chain reactions taking place inside your body, a lot of glands start working over-time, releasing substances that eventually lead to breakouts.

For instance, the adrenal glands release cortisol into your bloodstream, causing your sebaceous glands to produce more oil, which then mixes with dead cells and ends up clogging your pores.

Of course after a hard day's work you go home and expect to get a good night's sleep, but your body might not always feel that way. Difficulties in falling asleep or not sleeping for at least 8 hours a night are a not recommended situation. Scientists agree with the necessity of your 'beauty sleep', because it is a great opportunity for your body to rest, fight against existing breakouts and future infections and strengthen your immune system.

'Exercise' as much as you can and find a schedule so that your body rests enough. In conclusion, fighting against acne might not be as hard as you think. It just takes some effort, at least 7-8 hours of good sleep, some sun protection for your skin and a little awareness regarding your surroundings. A healthy lifestyle also means to get well fed, so you are less likely to feel irritated by the events of your day and therefore not that stressed.

You could also do a lot of relaxing activities like walking or reading a book, whatever makes you feel happy and content. Remember that these are steps towards your overall health and, moreover, towards your skin health.
